Alison Milburn, PhD

Dr. Alison Milburn is a Licensed Psychologist and Certified Health Service Provider in the State of Iowa. She works with individual adults and couples, focusing on a wide range of concerns. She received a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The Ohio State University and completed her predoctoral internship in Health Psychology at the VA Medical Center in West Haven, CT.

After moving to Iowa, Dr. Milburn worked for over four years at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as the health psychologist for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department. There, she worked with patients in many areas related to women's health, including infertility, gynecologic cancer, chronic pelvic pain, vulvar disease, post-partum depression and sexual dysfunction. Since 1994 Dr. Milburn has been working in private practice settings, including sixteen years as a partner at East Iowa Psychology Group, PC.

She continues to work in areas related to women's health and also with the effects of other medical problems, helping address psychological issues that can result from illness and providing treatments to ease suffering. In addition to this work, Dr. Milburn sees female and male clients with a wide variety of disorders, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, grief, eating disorders and problems with adjustment to life events. She also has specialized training as a marital and sex therapist and works with individuals and couples on sexual and relationship issues. Dr. Milburn is fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapeutic technique that has been shown to successfully treat the negative effects of trauma, among other things. Dr. Milburn has been using EMDR in her practice since 1998.

Dr. Milburn lives in Coralville with her husband and her adopted Chinese daughter and son.
